Estancia de los Rios Lodge
Estancia de los Rios Lodge was built 10 years ago to the exacting standards of brothers Cristian and Marcelo Dufflocq on a 360,000 acre sheep ranch close to the Argentine frontier. For more than 60 miles the Rio Cisnes with its many spring creek tributaries flows through the main valley inside the ranch, providing guests with the luxury of fishing in complete solitude. There is no finer place for dry fly purists, but those willing to bend on nymphs or streamers will catch more fish. The gentle gradient provides for easy wading while riffle drop-offs and spring holes provide lies for fish eager to ambush your fly. A remote, seldom-fished valley with a cabin for spending a night under the Southern Cross is a must for the adventuresome. Delightful local guides are available for those wanting to explore this enchanting land on foot, horseback or mountainbike. Your host Marcelo and the lodge staff consistently win rave reviews for service. The room accommodations are commodious and comfortable and the food is outstanding. Access to the lodge is through Balmaceda; most guests opt to arrive and depart via a 35-minute charter flight from the Balmaceda airport directly to the ranch; some opt to drive into the lodge over the scenic Carretera Austral.
