Fundo el Salto Lodge

Fundo el Salto Lodge for more than 15 years has been providing traveling anglers with outstanding fishing. The lake-fed Rio Petrohue holds healthy populations of browns and rainbows and increasing numbers of Atlantic salmon. The lodge is easily accessible from Puerto Montt, 1.5-hour drive from the airport, or via crossing the Andes from Argentina by van or the full-day Lake Crossing of the Andes excursion from Bariloche. A private, half-mile long spring creek provides challenging dry fly fishing for large cruising trout in addition to the Western U.S.-type float fishing on the Rio Petrohue or other tributaries. Nicco and Karen Cantarutti are delightful manager-hosts in a converted farmhouse nestled into the Vicente Perez Rozales National Park. The view of the snow-capped Osorno Volcano is stunning. Outstanding service and fine food are a part of the "Fundo" experience. Given the proximity to the resort town of Puerto Varas there are plenty of activities besides fishing (hiking, bird watching, rafting, horseback riding, forest canopy tours and shopping) for those who might want a day or two at leisure. The lodge is ideal for anglers who would like to combine fishing in Chile with destinations in Argentina; consider combining the Fundo El Salto Lodge with the Rio Manso Lodge south of Bariloche.
